How statutory redundancy pay works (2026/27)

You qualify after 2+ years of continuous service.
For each full year of service you get a number of weeks' pay based on your age that year: 0.5 week under 22, 1 week aged 22–40, 1.5 weeks aged 41+.
Weekly pay is capped at £751 (from 6 April 2026) and a maximum of 20 years counts — so the most statutory redundancy can be is £22,530.
Statutory redundancy pay is tax-free, and counts towards the £30,000 tax-free limit on total termination payments.
Many employers pay enhanced redundancy above the statutory minimum — anything above £30,000 in total is taxable.
